The Saracens Head Pub | Dunstable

Historic Coaching Inn & Public House
Standing proudly on High Street South, The Saracen’s Head is one of Dunstable’s most historic buildings, with origins dating back to the 16th century.
The present building is formed from three former cottages, one of which became a public house during the 1700s. Over time the cottages were combined and transformed into the impressive coaching inn that became a landmark for travellers passing through Dunstable.
Following a devastating fire in 1815, much of the building was rebuilt, creating the distinctive frontage that remains today. The Saracen’s Head also inherited its name from an even older inn of the same name that once stood closer to the crossroads near Church Walk.
Throughout its history the Saracen’s has welcomed travellers, railway passengers, cyclists, motorcyclists, locals and visitors alike. Historic photographs show the inn serving as a hotel, commercial house and popular stopping point during the early days of motoring and motorcycle touring.
Following an extensive refurbishment, The Saracen’s Head reopened in September 2025, breathing new life into one of Dunstable’s most iconic historic buildings.
Today visitors can enjoy a welcoming atmosphere in the heart of the town while experiencing a piece of Dunstable’s rich heritage.
